Geraldine Eva Hegedus, age 97 of Geneva, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Lantern of Madison surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born February 3, 1920 in Cleveland she was the daughter of Clell and Edna (Jackson) Mapes. She married Steve J. Hegedus on December 1, 1945 in Cleveland after he returned from the War. They were happily married for 37 years until he passed away in 1982. Gerri retired as a switchboard operator from Western Reserve Telephone Company, taking with her many good friends. It was easy for her to make new friends and she was always up for a good shopping trip. Gerri met many of her lifelong friends through her local card club, welcoming new members to the community. She was also a member of Assumption Catholic Church. The family would like to thank Gerri's caregivers at the Lantern, the Sanctuary in Geneva and Hospice of the Western Reserve. She is survived by her children: Mark Hegedus of Geneva, Lori (Kam) Majd of Malibu, CA, and Scott (Pamela) Hegedus of Costa Mesa, CA; granddaughters Megan and Sydney Majd of Malibu, CA; brother: Roger Mapes of Bradenton, FL; and sister LaVerne Johns of Mantua. Gerri is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Bernard and Robert; and her sister Marlene. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2846 Hubbard Road in Madison. Fr. Sean Donnelly will officiate the service.
