Gerald Pocatko

Gerald Pocatko, age 83, of Madison, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Geneva Village Retirement. He was born May 6, 1937, in Belle Vernon, PA, the son of Michael A. and Helen (Gnip) Pocatko. He married Mary Lu Ormsby, in North Olmsted, on September 28, 1968.
Gerald grew up on a farm in Saybrook. He went on to become a Combat Engineer with the 308th Engineer Battalion in the U.S. Army. Gerald was first stationed in Ft. Knox and then later in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Jerry’s family owned Michael’s Meat Market for many years in Geneva. He was a professional entertainer known as “Jerry Michaels,” who sang with The Jesters in the 1950’s through the 1970’s.
He is survived by daughter, Kellie Pocatko; and sister, Karen Hardy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lu Pocatko; his parents; brothers, Mike Pocatko, Albert Pocatko; and Joseph Pocatko; sisters, Beverly Kemerait and Elaine Pocatko.
Friends will be received 1-3 pm Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. Funeral Service will take place 11 am Monday, January 25, 2021 at the funeral home. Guests are required to follow current pandemic guidelines, wear masks and practice social distancing. Final Resting Place will be Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Geneva.
