Gerald "Jerry" Vandervort, age 92, of Geneva, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016 at Geauga Medical Center. He was born April 1, 1924 in Crossingville, PA to George and Martha (Tobin) Vandervort. Jerry married Helen Grof in Madison on September 17, 1949. Jerry graduated from Thompson High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was employed at Diamond Shamrock for 34 years. Jerry was an active member of Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Shawnee Square Dance Club. He loved family gatherings and church activities. He is survived by children, Mary Ann (Cliff) Fenner, Mike (Marsha) Vandervort, Jean (Brian) Forman, Tom (Carla) Vandervort, Dave (Rose) Vandervort, John (Connie) Vandervort; grandchildren, Matt, Mark, Amy, Maureen, Shelley, Melissa, Sarah, Tyler, Tori, Chandler, Nikki, Misty, Jeremy; six great-grandchildren, sister, Rose (Bob) Millican; brothers, Clifford Vandervort, Patrick Vandervort; and many loved nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Helen; grandson, Doug; his parents and stepmother, Anna; six brothers and one sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Assumption Catholic Church, 594 W Main St, Geneva. Final Resting Place will be Fairview Memorial Park in Madison.   1. Mary Ann. I am very sorry to see this. My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family during this difficult time. Losing a parent is never easy at any age.

  2. I wish I had known him better for being a square dancer. What I knew of him was indirect: That he raised some outstanding children and that he must have had the patience and resilience of Job because Mike is still alive to tell the story of how he and I managed to bend the frame of Mr. Vandervorts driver's door… The family car; the one and only car. I still flinch today remembering that.
