George T. Geis
August 2, 1938 ~ January 8, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of George T. Geis, Jr. announce that our Dad passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022 at his home in Madison, due to complications from a stroke. Born August 2, 1938, to Ruth and George Geis, he grew up in the Cleveland and Willoughby areas before moving to Thompson with the love of his life, Carol (Ede) in 1968. Later in life, he bought a house in Madison with his daughter, Michelle and was a resident for 23 years.
When he married Carol, he became an instant father to four children. Altogether, George and Carol had six children, one child, Christopher George, passed away at birth. Dad was an avid Rivera enthusiast and owned several of them throughout his life.
George retired from R.W. Sidley in Thompson after 40 years in 2004. He then went on to work part-time for the Madison Township Road Department for three years to keep busy. He was also a Veteran serving in the US Army.
Our dad adopted all of us kids and treated us as if we were his blood. He stepped up to be a father when another man did not, in a time when it was not socially acceptable to do so.
He went to work to support the family at a job he was not particularly fond of, because he was more concerned about making sure we kids had what we needed, rather than his own desires. In the last days of his life, Dad stated “I have no regrets, your mom and I had all you kids and that was everything.”
George is survived by his daughters, Bonnie (Rick) Baker, Bobbie Geis, Beth (Brian R.) West and Michelle (Arthur Payne) Hayes.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren to include: Leigh (Scott) Spohler, Dr. Michael (Dr. Kelli) Baker, Kate Baker, John (Lindsay) Zilke, Elizabeth (Gary Horst) Zilke, Brian M. (Grace Miller) West, Heather (Trent) Tesmer, Jason (Katie) West, Brandon (Lisa Stoneman) Hayes, Korey (Emily) Hayes, Jacob Hayes, Noelle Hayes, Christopher (Amanda) Wolfe and Daniel Wolfe.
He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
Dad was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and he beamed with pride whenever they visited. He would tell you that his greatest accomplishment was the family he and Carol made together.
We would like to acknowledge his son-in-law Brian R. West and son-in-law Rick Baker, as well as Arthur Payne, who were instrumental in taking care of George’s needs this last year of his life and we are in awe of the unselfishness they had shown.
George was welcomed in heaven by his wife, Carol, sons Bud C, Wolfe, Jr and infant, Christopher George.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, OH 44057. A funeral service honoring his life will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Grandson, Jason V. West will be officiating the service. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville next to Carol and Christopher. They are together again.
Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your dad. Words are simply not enough.
Hold onto the memories, keep them close to your heart. His love endures forever.
Prayers & blessings for all of you and your family.
Dear Bobbie, Michelle & Korey, I’m so sorry to read about your dad’s/granddad’s passing. He was a gentle and quiet person. I loved talking with him over the years. He was such a nice man. I pray that he is at peace and that God is with you and your family at this time.
