Genevieve Wirtzberger

genevieve wirtzberger

September 22, 1928 ~ November 6, 2022

Genevieve Wirtzberger, 94, died on November 6 after a brief illness. She was born on September 22, 1928 in Pine Bluff, Ark. to parents George (Harry) and Nova Jones. She was one of eight children. Her sisters Joann Kessler and Clara Glass survive.  Her husband Lawrence (Lon) Wirtzberger passed away in 1972. She is survived by her children, Cathy (John) Janu, Michael (Karen) Wirtzberger, and Christine Wirtzberger. Her son, Shawn Wirtzberger passed away in 2007.  She has nine grandchildren; Sally and Michael Gramoy, Stacy (Trace) Schwind, Megan (Michael) Herrick, Ryan Wirtzberger, Rickee (Bryan) Dooley, Christopher Wirtzberger (deceased), Justin Wirtzberger, and Abby (Derek) Wirtzberger.  She also has 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She worked at NEO Hospital for a number of years with her best friend Harriett Hart, and then worked as a nanny for the Rowat Family where she cared for Brandon and Lyndsey. She loved decorating and did it often.  Her home was a great source of pride for her.  She loved fine clothes, jewelry, and cars and loved to shop, but had to put her “face” on first. She also loved to travel and took many road trips with her family.  And we have to mention that she loved sweets; any kind but especially chocolate! Most of all, she loved her family and they loved her.  She was very close to all of her children and extended family. She was the voice of reason to many and the voice of calm to others. She lived in Madison Place for 31 years, longer than anyone.  At 94, she was the glue that held everyone together and was often sought out for advice. Everyone felt comfortable around her. She made many friends there over the years. Her family will try to follow in her shoes, but they are very big shoes to fill for such a little person. She was truly the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed. Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, November 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Behm Funeral Home in Madison, OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Online obituary and condolences may be viewed at www.behmfuneral.com

  4. I remember meeting Mrs. Wirtzberger when I was in high school, but it turned out that my daughter got an apartment at Madison Place and Mrs. Wirtzberger was her neighbor. What a sweet woman and friend to my Anna. I loved chatting with her and hearing news about her family. I will always remember her smile as she talked about her kids. She was proud of each one.
