Ernie is a proud Veteran of the United States Army and unexpectedly passed away on April 1, 2024. He is the son of Roger and Darlene Knapp. Ernie grew up in Perry, Ohio and was born in Westfield, NY to Ernest Reardon, Sr. and Sarah Reardon; then went to live with the Knapp family at age 16. He graduated Perry High School in 1982. On June 8th, 1982 Ernie enlisted in the United States Army while in his senior year of high school then went on to successfully complete Basic Training at Fort Dix in New Jersey. He completed 4 years of service in the Army and he valued this service highly while attaining the rank of a Military Occupational Specialist (E4). He served in the United States and abroad (in Germany and other surrounding countries overseas). He received the Army Achievement medal, Meritorious Service medal, Army Service medal, and the Army Overseas Service medal. Ernie is preceded in death by his birth parents, foster father, Roger Knapp; his brother John A. Chandler, his brother Carl Reardon; and his sister Brenda L. Rathmell. Ernie is survived by his sisters, Denise (Bill) Nelson, Sarah Dugan (John Beggs), Sandy (Alan) Boring, Cindy (Randy) Golding, Shelly (James) Myers, Chery Knapp, and Paige McLeod in addition to his brother Raymond (Lisa) Knapp. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. His loved ones will remember Ernie for his integrity, loyalty to family, hard work ethic, dedication to caring for the elderly, and his passion for rescuing injured or abandoned animals. He also loved fishing and canoeing. The viewing for Ernie Reardon will be held at North Star Church from 10 am to noon and will be located at 3050 Antioch Road, Perry, Ohio 44081. Services honoring the life of Ernie will immediately follow the viewing. Ernie will then be laid to rest at the Perry Cemetery located at 3840 Middle Ridge Road, Perry, Ohio 44081. Any donations for Ernie can be made to North Star for the funeral. Please make donations payable to Denise Nelson or to North Star Church or Rescue Village where Ernie rescued several cats.   3. I will miss the light Ernie brought to my life. He always put the biggest smile on my face and always made me laugh. It was always a good time when I worked with him. He made anything negative situation I had going on in my life, a positive one. He was always there for whatever I needed. I will truly miss him and my heart goes out to him and his family. May he rest in peace.

  4. To Ernie’s family…So very sorry for your loss. I have known Ernie since he moved on Garfield. He was my dog walking buddy and will be greatly missed by me and my dog, Vern. Always willing to help and will not be forgotten.
