Ernest M. Strumbly
February 5, 1926 ~ January 31, 2016
Ernest M. Strumbly died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 31, 2016. He was 89. Ernest was born on February 5, 1926 in Euclid, to his parents, Frank and Jennie Strumbly. Ernest's life was defined by hard work and doing the right thing. He served his country in WWII as a combat engineer in the 42nd Rainbow Division and was part of the Rhine River Crossing and the first wave of troops that liberated Dachau. At home, he provided for his family by working as a skilled carpenter. Ernest had an interest in all things mechanical and had a gift for devising ways to make work easier and efficient. While he'd never call himself a "hero" or a "genius", those who knew him would say he was both of those things. Ernest is survived by his sister, Edith (Frank Tegel); his sons, Ernest (Jackie), and Frank; his daughter, Jennifer (Tim Uzarski); four granddaughters; and three great-grandsons. He is preceded in death by an infant son, and his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy. They're both in heaven dancing the waltz on a cloud. Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Thompson, OH. Arrangements are being handled by The Behm Family Funeral Home in Madison.
