Elizabeth Fox
November 18, 1915 ~ June 28, 2013
Mrs. Elizabeth Fox, age 97, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013.
Mrs. Fox was born November 18, 1915, in Frizzleburg, PA, a daughter of Charles and Mary Bell. She was a resident of Frizzleburg and Ambrosia Road, Pulaski Township, PA, most of her life until moving to Geneva, OH in 2005.
She married Michael (Mike, Mitch) Fox in 1936. They lived in Baltimore, Akron, and Youngstown before moving to the original Fox farm on Ambrosia Road, Pulaski Township, PA
Mrs. Fox was the first secretary for the former United Presbyterian Church of New Bedford, PA, and later the New Bedford Presbyterian Church with Revs. Fred Lenk and John McClure. She left this position to work as a library secretary at Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA, from 1968 to 1987.
She graduated from New Castle Senior High School in 1932, two years earlier than her original class, due to beginning her public education at the age of five and to scholastic promotions. She was a member of the New Bedford Presbyterian Church from age twelve to her death, treasurer of the women's association for many years, active in women's fellowship, and other organizations within the church. Her library knowledge and office skills became useful resources to construct the first New Bedford Presbyterian Church library.
Mrs. Fox served as secretary-treasurer and later president of the New Bedford Senior Citizens Group. She was an original founder of the Frizzleburg '49ers 500 Card Club in 1949 and rekindled the group recruiting younger members in the 1990's. The card group continues to play "500" today.
Mrs. Fox was an avid reader and enjoyed baking and cooking. In the 1950's it was common for neighborhood boys who lived nearby to visit on Saturdays if they detected fresh doughnuts, pies, cakes, or rolls were out of the oven. There were always plenty of treats for everyone.
