President Goudy – too many great memories to choose just one- Weather it was attending my daughter’s games at UConn, visiting me for my doctors checkup or running the union. He would remind me that the Cleveland browns would beat my Dallas Cowboys – which they did this year- One of the happiest times was at his sons Kyle wedding- what a proud daddy- He was a true friend and mentor- People do not realize that he was the gymnastic coach for black girls in Cleveland as well as taking AAU teams to nationals. I love and will miss him! My thoughts and prayers will be with his family! Roger save the Union! He put the AAU before everything. I can’t thank his family enough for the sacrifices they made, allowing him to help so many! I know that I have an angel- looking over me, making me stay healthy. I love and miss you Roger!
Christine, Kyle, Taylor, Brian and Brett, you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Dr. Goudy was an amazing person and always cared for the well being of others. He made such a positive impact in my life in just the few years that I knew him. He will be greatly missed.
My condolences to the family. Mr. Goudy was my favorite gym teacher. His legacy will live on with the all the students of Warrensville Heights City Schools.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Goudy family. Dr. Goudy left an impression on me that I will always remember. There was never a time he saw me and did not say hello, ask me how I was doing or compliment the work I was doing. He gave me a chance to do something I loved right out of college. His presence will be greatly missed at the AAU. – Asia McMillan and Family

Roger was a most welcoming gentleman to anyone willing to volunteer time, monies, sponsorships and coaching. I first met Roger when I became the LEAAAU Gymnastics Chairman. Walking in a newbie, walking out as family. One man that cared so much for youth athletes and athletics that he dedicated himself to holding up The AAU umbrella of ‘protection’ over every athlete, every coach, every sport. You will be so missed Roger. I’m sure your Vice Presidents will step in to carry on your legacy; but can they ever fill your shoes.
I was blessed to gain the friendship of Roger. I was fortunate to work with him and feel his impact on students and staff. I watched with admiration his leadership skills as it evolved over time. I cherished the good times we had together especially on the golf course. Teresa and I want share condolences. May Gid comfort you. Dennis and Teresa Kowalski
I made it a point to call Dr. Goudy a few years ago. At the time, I was a superintendent in Georgia while he was superintendent in Madison. I started my teaching and coaching career there in Madison, so I thought we might have a nice conversation. Oh, BTW, we were fraternity brothers at Kent — DUs! We had a wonderful conversation and realized that we still had much in common. He was a great guy and surely will be missed. May God give the family and friends peace and comfort as we reflect on the Lord's promises and provisions. Bill Truby, PhD
Sorry to see him pass away. Joe Mis, Indiana
Had the privilege of meeting this gentlemen for lunch while discussing business and how he wanted to make the AAU experience better for all his athletes at Disney. Remember leaving the lunch feeling like I had met someone who really cared.

Roger, the best man at my wedding, and I were roommates for several years, first in the DU frat house and afterwards in a Lake St. house in Kent. One memory from the pre-cellphone days of the seventies was the day I visited my future wife in Cleveland Hts. and received a phone call from Rog. A bat was flying around in his bedroom and he needed help. I immediately made the 45-minute drive to Lake St. and ran upstairs to his bedroom. The bat hung upside down on a curtain but Roger couldn’t be seen anywhere. A long phone cord, though, trailed on the floor from his nightstand to his closed closet. When I shouted for him, he answered from inside the closet. He refused to come out until after I caught the bat, which I did by using a mesh laundry bag. I’ll never forget the sight of his wide-eyed, sweat-covered face when he exited the closet, phone in hand. Roger, you will be missed. Liz and I send our prayers.
The Middle Atlantic District was shocked to hear of the unexpected passing of Roger. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. We cannot imagine how difficult this must be for your family. -Alison Eachus

Please except my condolences on the loss of Roger. I will never forget the leadership, enthusiasm and excitement he brought to the Madison school system as we build our new schools. I will miss seeing him on the sidelines at the Madison football games. Madison community owes him so much. The only ones that may disagree are those Madison basketball players who played and lost to him in the old Memorial Gym where Dr. Goudy set his career high scoring record against the Madison team.
I am just heart broken to read of the passing of Roger Goudy, a friend and former classmate at Kent State University with whom I vied, good naturedly of course, in all sorts of competition in the many classes we shared. Roger and I share the same birthday July 8, and I have such respect for his outstanding career as a school administrator and with the AAU. My deepest sympathy and many prayers of healing to Roger's family during this difficult time. Deborah Birdwell Moore – KSU Class of 1974

Family. When I think of Roger Goudy, the first word that floats into the swirl of memories on the beach, in a gym, at football games… is family. Well, that and nicknames. People oft use the descriptor family man… but in Roger’s case, it rings most true to his family and his extended family of friends. I first met Roger, when he arrived in Hermosa Beach with his three young sons. And without skipping a beat, he quickly adopted another son … that’s when Vaun Lennon became Vaun Goudy and part of the family. His boys, following suit (or vice versa) also adopted another brother. His example manifests through his children who emulate acceptance and love. When he accepted you into his fold, his friendship, and, if you were lucky enough for him to bestow a nickname … you were also family. His deep love for his Peep, Christine Goudy, was evident from the moment you looked at them. Their teamwork in raising their children created a loving, supported, and wonderful legacy that lives on through their grandchildren and beyond. Peep, JIN-bow, Denny F’ing Lennon, Turbo, Marinara, Vaun Goudy, Yino, Clooney, Queen of the Beach, and of course, Queen of the Beach’s “Sister”… the list goes on and encompasses the love and support you could count on from Roger. My heart breaks and even so, I am so happy to be part of the Goudy family through friendship and love. My most heartfelt and sincere condolences for all of our loss of a wonderful human being. Love and Condolences, Christine Lennon
Roger was my recreation supervisor and mentor at Warrensville Heights Recreation when I started my Karate Teaching career many years ago. Later in the 80’s he stopped by my SELREC program while working at Brush HS. He always was a positive force and used his kindness and genuity in my successful career on the Eastside of Cleveland; later in Solon ; plus at the AAU. His family can be proud of his life’s achievement; touching Thousands of good people in Cleveland and beyond. I will cherish his helpful interaction with me for all future. Thanks GM Eb Molesch, Lifetime Karate Academy
I’m sending so much love and many, many hugs and prayers for calm and healing to Christine, the Goudy children, and the rest of Roger’s loved ones. He is looking down and making sure everyone continues to be okay.
When I was informed of Roger’s passing, I was shocked and awed. He was like a brother to me for 42 years. My extreme condolences go out to his wife, family, friends, and co-workers. When Roger gave you a nick name, you were forever being watched over and truly loved by the man. My nick name was Albert ”Kirkhill” Gates. In 1980 I was working for a plumbing company in California named Kirkhill. When he first heard the name Kirkhill, he always liked it. I will truly miss his phone call messages for Kirkhill to call him back. Everyone Roger touched, he made that person stronger, better, and wiser. There are so many memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Rest In Peace. Some day we will meet again. PS, When I told my 89 year old young mother Shirley Gates, she cried profusely.

I enjoyed getting to know Roger over the course of several years while serving as Superintendent in the Riverside Local School District. What impressed me the most about Roger was his wealth of knowledge regarding every facet of school operations and the fact that he knew just about everyone, but most of all his genuine demeanor and sense of humor.
As you grieve know that we are remembering you and honoring the memory of Roger. Montana District of AAU–Jeremy Shields, Governor
