July 15, 1946 ~ March 17, 2017

Dr. Gregory Faulkner, 70, of Madison, passed away peacefully, March 17, 2017 at Lake Pointe Health Center in Lorain, Ohio after a lengthy illness. He was born July 15, 1946 in Cleveland. Greg was a graduate of Mentor High School. Mr. Faulkner married the love of his life Barbara Taylor in Euclid on October 25, 1969. Greg graduated in 1970 from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine with a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he and his new bride moved to Madison and opened Madison Veterinary Hospital and successfully operated the business in Madison for 45 years before retirement in 2015. Over the years Dr. Faulkner was a true hero to many families, saving many of their furry family members. In the early days of his practice, business was so slow that he and his wife spent more time playing pool than seeing patients, but the practice eventually grew into a fixture of the Madison Community. In 2015, he was honored for his service to the community by being named "Business of the Year" by the Madison-Perry Chamber of Commerce. He was also a supporter of the Madison Public Schools. Greg studied the martial art of Aikido for decades and achieved the rank of 5th degree black belt. He taught classes at his dojo and traveled for seminars. He was also active for many years in Friendship Connection, an organization that pairs volunteers with developmentally disabled individuals. Of all his accomplishments, the one he was most proud of was his family. Dr. Faulkner is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara; his daughters, Darci (Josh) Madden, Carrie (Bill) Rodrigues, Emily (Hien) Pham; his son Joseph Faulkner; and six grandchildren Jack, Charlotte, and Henry Madden, Ava and Audrey Rodrigues and Sadie Pham; sister, Lorraine (Greg) Krashoc. He is already deeply missed by his family. A Memorial Service will be held April 1, 2017 at 2 PM at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4-8 PM and on Saturday from 12-2 PM at the funeral home. He will be remembered by those closest to him for his wicked sense of humor, his fierce loyalty, his brilliant intellect, and his love of books and the outdoors. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dr. Faulkner's name to Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village, 15463 Chillicothe Road, Russell Twp, OH 44072, OR to Lake Metro Parks, 11211 Spear Road, Concord Twp, OH 44077. I just returned home from Florida my first winter there and was shocked to hear the news of the loss of a great doctor and friend returned home from Florida my first winter there and was shocked to hear the news of the loss of a great doctor and friends . I feel that Dr. Faulkner was one of the few veterinarians that was in it for the animals and I appreciate his kind and gentle nature with my animals even coming out to the vehicle when I had to have them euthanized and he never would consider charging me for that . He always spoke highly of his wife Barbra and his kids when I would be visiting as I have been one of his customers for well over 20 years and volunteered at the APL and rescued many animals so I was at his office quite often . I am so sorry that I wasn't here at the time of his memorial he will be greatly missed by all .
