Dr. Edward Hudgens

HUDGENS, Dr. Edward D., Jr., age 90 of Oberlin and formerly of Madison, passed away, Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Born April 14, 1922 in Grand Bay, Alabama to Nola (Owensby) & Edward Hudgens, Sr., he married Lorna LaWand on June 1, 1948. He was a general practice physician in Madison from 1954-1979. Dr. Hudgens was a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and served in the U. S. Coast Guard in WWII. He received his medical degree from the Tulane School of Medicine. He served as President of the East End YMCA, was a member of the American Medical Association and an associate of the Ohio State Medical and Lake County Medical Society. Former owner of Erie Shores Gulf Course, he also worked for Veterans Hospitals in Brecksville and Walla Walla, Washington. He operated Hudgens Haven Bed & Breakfast in Edmonds, WA. He is survived by his daughters, Blythe (Tom) Strong of Tucson, AZ, Melody Werner of St. Paul, MN & Heather (Vince) Valdez of Austin, TX; son-in-law, Herb Werner of Bay Village, OH; granddaguthers, Ellen Tzeutschler & Laura Carroll; great-grandson, Timothy Tzeutschler, brother, James Hudgens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna; son, Thomas; parents; sisters, Mary Hudgens , Helen Richards & Dorothy Williams; brothers, John, Paul & Wesley Hudgens. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2013 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio. Final resting place will be Fairview Cemetery in Madison, Ohio.
