March 26, 1938 ~ September 16, 2016

Dorothy May "Dottie" (Turner) Betts Dottie Betts, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 16, 2016. Dottie was born in Geneva, OH on March 26, 1938 to Frank Turner Sr. and L. Mildred Beacon. Dottie lived the majority of her life in Geneva, moving into Austinburg Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in the memory care unit due to a rapid-moving illness, one year ago. Dottie was a dedicated school bus driver with a loving smile for Geneva Area City Schools for 30+ years, loving her many friends/coworkers and "students" as her own family. She was known by many as Mrs. Betts. She volunteered much of her time to providing transportation for many organizations and activities such as the Miss Grapette Court and Disabled Veteran's. Prior to moving into ARC, Dottie helped many of her friends with transportation to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and their jobs (for those of a much-younger age). An active member of Blue Star Mother's and volunteer for Disabled Veteran's, she was frequently seen at gatherings assisting with pot lucks and other important events. A lover of all animals, Dottie was never known to turn her back on a stray, having as many as three dogs at any given time. Dorothy is survived by her oldest brother Frank "Jr." Turner; her children Pamela (Robert) Bennett of Mentor, OH; Dianne (John) Larkins and Michael Betts both of Geneva, OH; and Janet (John) Reed of Colorado Springs, CO; her nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Lawrence "Larry" Betts Jr. whom she missed dearly and will now remain with eternally by being buried with his ashes; her brothers Norvin, William, Richard and Robert; and her parents. Friends will be received 10 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, with a memorial service immediately following at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Bryan Manary of the United Church will be officiating. Final resting place will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva at a later date. A special thank you for the loving care by the nurses and staff at ARC-400 hall and Hospice of the Western Reserve. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, OH 44004 or any Veteran's organization is recommended in memory of Dottie. 5. I have so many warm and wonderful memories of Mrs. Betts. I was so fortunate as a child to spend weeks at the family farm and she always made me feel special. Love to all the family.

  6. Dottie, we will miss you. Your life has sent out many ripples and touched so many lives that it would challenge anyone trying to calculate a number. My regret is that I was not around to give you one last hug…you gave great hugs. Rest in peace, Dottie.

  7. I worked with Dottie for a lot of years, she was a great friend and helped me when ever I needed her. Dottie will be missed greatly. Now she will make a caring angel to help other people.

  8. The Blue Star Mothers-Chapter 57 of Geneva are very sorry for your loss. Mrs. Mary Anne Burholder visited Dottie just a few days before her journey to heaven. She reported that Dottie knew who she was and answered Mary Anne with the sound of her voice, not in words, just sounds. Mary Ann read to her about Noah and the animals and she said Dottie just seem to be at peace. They sat together and watched the birds at the foot of her bed. When it was time to go,Dottie squeezed Mary Anne's hand before parting ways. God Bless Dottie and all those she has touched. Dottie and her family are in our prayers.

  9. To Aunt Pam and all of my other family members who knew Dottie well, I am sorry you lost your mother. I really liked her as she was a nice great aunt. I didn't get to see her much for the last years I got to meet her, but I'm still glad I got to see her before she passed on.
