Donald J. Chapman

Donald J. Chapman, 94, passed away Tuesday January 27 at The Lantern of Madison. He was the youngest of ten children born at home in Perry to Milton and Ina (nee Tavener) Chapman on January 3, 1921, and he married the love of his life, Edith Ojala in 1941. After graduating from Perry High in 1939, Don joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. When he came home, Don owned and operated D and R Garage doing automotive repairs. Later, he worked for Lubrizol and retired from there in 1982. Don was a very soft spoken man who loved playing the guitar and reading his Bible; and like his father before him, he was known as "Mr. Fixit." He had a motor home for several years and liked traveling to Florida. Don is survived by his children William (Konnie) Chapman, Paul (Barbara) Chapman, John (Kathy) Chapman; grand children, Jerry Chapman, Brett (Heike) Chapman, John Chapman II, Julie (Brian) Doutrich, Milton (Lina) Chapman, Carrie Chapman; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, his parents, and all his brothers and sisters. Family and friends are welcomed for calling at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 26 River St., Madison Ohio from 4-7pm Friday January 30, 2015. Funeral service will be 1:30pm Saturday January 31, 2015 at the funeral home. Pastor Mike Rice from New Day Christian Church will officiate the service. Final resting place will be at Perry Cemetery on Center Rd. Family suggests donations be made in Don's name to New Day Christian Church 6835 North Ridge Rd Madison, OH 44057.
