Donald D. Heywood, Age 87, of Chardon, Ohio, formerly of Madison, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital.
Born March 6, 1925 in Coitsville, Ohio to Mabel Grace (Burrows) & Harry Heywood; married Vivienne Morley in Madison, Ohio on May 15, 1994
Mr. Heywood served in the U.S. Army in England from 1943-1944 185h Infantry, 1st Division Spearhead Omaha Beach, Normandy, 5 Campaigns: Bronze Star Valor. Military Police for 10 years. He served in the Germany (Cold War) 1948-1952 and in France from 1960-1963 and under the Greenland Ice Cap Scientific Expedition for 6 months in 1965, Vietnam 1966-1967 and Germany 1967-1970. His home station was Ft. Benning, GA. Retired from Ft. Knox, KY in 1970.
He is survived by Wife, Vivienne Heywood of Chardon; Sons, Donald Heywood, Jr. of Tucson, AZ, Anthony (Tina) Heywood of Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany, Michael (ex-wife, Petra) Heywood of Bavaria, Germany; Daughter, Jennifer Filser of Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany; 9 Grandchildren; Brothers, Jim (Ann) Heywood of Lakeland, FL, Edward (Mary) Williams of Hubbard, OH, Dale (Wanda) Williams of Jacksonville, NC; Sisters, Josephine Beach & Susie Stevenson both of Round Rock, TX. He was preceded in death by Daughter, Theresa Ann Heywood; his Parents; Brother, Harry (Irene) Heywood; Brothers-in-law, Marion Beach & Richard Stevenson.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Friday, June 22, 2012 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, OH 44057 with Pastor James Hayes of Chardon Baptist Church officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Final Resting Place will be Fairview Cemetery, Madison, Ohio.
