Dan L. Elsas (86), a retired electronics engineering executive, died peacefully at Brandley Hospice House in Summerfield, Florida on July 22, 2018. A native of Columbus, OH, he moved to Florida from Buffalo, NY in 1988. He was a member of Ocala West United Methodist Church and the Ocala Flying Model Club. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. As a boy, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in fourteen months and Air Scout Ace twelve months later. The vast majority of his adult career was committed to the design, development, and implementation of world-wide secure communications systems for the Defense Communications Agency of the U.S. Government. In this regard, he was responsible for the Automatic Digital Network (AUTODIN), the National Military Command System (NMCS), the candidate system design for the SAFEGUARD ballistic missile system, and served in various engineering capacities on many other government secure communications programs. In addition, he held other electronics corporate positions such as Director of Business Development and President of Amcor Incorporated. He co-authored many highly classified design regulations and documentation for the Department of Defense. Survivors include his daughter, Suzanne K Schmitt (Paul Sr.) of Royalton, NY; two grandchildren, Joshua C Hagler of Buffalo, NY and Christine N Sani (Ibrahim); and two great grandchildren named Shakira and Zion Sani of Chandler, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Stineman) Elsas of Ocala, FL; his son, Robert Elsas of Douglassville, PA; his parents, Ralph and Margaret Elsas of Columbus, OH; brother, Richard Elsas of Santa Ana, CA; and sister, Mary Lou Morgan of Hilliard OH. A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 12 noon, at the United Church of Geneva, 75 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041. A committal will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
