Carolyn Jo Jones Ed. D., age 78, of Painesville passed away Monday June 27, 2016 at Kindred LakeMed Nursing Home. She was born on June 12, 1938 in Kansas City, MO to Thelma Louise (Taylor) and Clarence Arnold Johnson. Carolyn was a member of Perry United Methodist Church and was very active with the Education Dept. and all areas of music, including choirs and bell choirs. She graduated with a BS and BA Degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth as well as an MA Degree from The Ohio State University and Ed D. from North Texas State University, Denton. Carolyn taught Elementary and Secondary special needs children, with an emphasis on visually impaired children and taught special education, Braille, and sign language, at the University of Toledo for several years. Carolyn moved to the Perry area in 1975 and continued to supervise programs for low-incidence handicapped children for many years. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering and traveling. Many of her trips were Volunteers in Mission Programs all over the world through the United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Perry Library Board of Trustees and Camp Sue Osborn Trustees. Carolyn volunteered for Meals on Wheels, The Little Red School House in Willoughby, and at the Fieldstone Farms Therapeutic Riding Center. Carolyn and her husband Jim were also active members of two history clubs, the Ramrod and Buster's and the Seventh OVI. Carolyn is survived by her sister, Judy Miller of Arvada, CO; brother, Eric (Susie) Johnson of North Carolina; four nieces and good friends, Barbara and Fred Bumblis. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Jones on June 10, 2016; brother-in-law, Bob Miller, and her parents. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Perry United Methodist Church, 3875 Main Street, Perry, Ohio, with Rev. Gerald Kalb officiating. Final Resting Place will be at Perry Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Perry United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
