Carol Louise (nee Henderson) Nells
September 7, 1938 ~ April 25, 2021
Carol Louise Nells (nee Henderson), age 82, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021, surrounded by her family at home.
Carol was born on September 7, 1938, in Cleveland, OH. She lived with her loving husband of 62 years, Larry Nells, in Thompson, OH. Her legacy will live on through her three children, Allen J. Nells (Rose), Deborah Nells-Porter (Eric Porter), and Don Nells (Diane).
She is also survived by granddaughter, Christina Marie Wallace (Brian) and great-grandson, Joseph Xavier Nells.
Carol is best remembered for her artistic Cakes by Carol and specialty cakes while working as a cake decorator at Giant Eagle; she was a retiree of the Cleveland Bakers and Teamsters. She loved collecting owls and enjoyed the serenity of the wildlife and flowers at their home fondly named by her as Cedarwood Acres.
After a recent and unexpected diagnosis of cancer, the family needs assistance in covering Carol’s medical and funeral expenses. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund account has been established. You can make a donation online at https://givebutter.com/carolnells or by check to Lawrence Nells, P.O. Box 92, Thompson, OH 44086.
The family is very grateful for every donation to help honor her memory during this difficult time.
A Remembrance Service will be held 10:30 am followed by a funeral mass on June 5, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 16550 Rock Creek Rd., Thompson, OH 44086. Afterward, a Celebration of Life will start at 12:30 pm at Grand River Cellars Winery, 5750 South Madison Rd, Madison OH 44057.
A private family burial at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, OH will take place at a later date.
Her family's most cherished memories include:
- As an after-school snack, Mom would treat us to homemade, graham crackers cookies with chocolate frosting centers
- Mom was fun to joust with; she could always take it and deliver back to you that "Mom" look...
- During the hot days of summer, we would spend hours swimming with Mom in our property's lake which her Dad built
- Into our adulthood, we continued to color Easter eggs with Mom each year, competing for the best colored egg!
- Mom would always call you on your birthday, and in her most silly voice, sing Happy Birthday!
- Mom always encouraged you to enjoy arts & crafts - knitting, painting, drawing, and more!
- On nice days after dinner, we would always take a walk around the yard with all the dogs following us and talk; we would go see Dad's cactus garden, the fish pond that Donie made, and enjoy all the different flowers in the yard
- When I was little, I would pick wild violets as my Mother's Day present to her; I continued the tradition throughout the years with gifts that incorporated violets
- She instilled my passion for celebrating St. Patrick's Day (Erin Go Bragh) and Halloween with all things spooky (we loved watching Dark Shadows every day after school!)
