Resided in: Chardon, Ohio

Though our world may have dimmed, Heaven has just gotten a whole lot brighter. Through the remainder of human history, let this document serve as a testament to the light, love, and laughter that accompanied our beautiful Brooke throughout life.

Brooke Melissa Jewell, 28, of Chardon, Ohio, lost her life in a tragic vehicular accident in the early hours of August 2nd, 2026. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at Monarch Meadow Vineyard on August 29th, 2026 from 3pm to 9pm.

Born April 22nd, 1998 in Cleveland, Ohio, Brooke was a source of comfort and love from birth. She attacked life with such ferocity that absolutely nothing she set her mind to was beyond her reach. Brooke attended school in the Geneva Area School District through her entire childhood and was heavily involved with Geneva sports, choir, theater, band, and countless other extracurricular activities. Even while suffering many grievous injuries, medical emergencies, and illnesses, she was indomitable. No ailment could hold her back. No sickness could stop her dedication to being the best she could be.

After graduating in 2016, Brooke continued this relentless pursuit into adulthood. Immediately after high school, she began working as an EMT through Northwest Ambulance District. From there, she began a far-too-short, but no-less-astounding path of pouring out her heart and soul into a career of public service. Brooke’s career choices were numerous, but all of them in service to the public. The list is far too long to mention in its entirety, but most notably in addition to working as an EMT, Brooke served as an emergency dispatcher for several local precincts, as a police officer, as a corrections officer, and most recently (and possibly most proudly) as a firefighter/EMT for the Fire Department in Thompson, Ohio. In addition to all of these varied endeavors, she also worked alongside her mother, father, and brother for a full decade starting as a mechanic’s helper, working up to mechanic, dispatcher, and ultimately serving as Shop Manager and Safety Coordinator for Truckmen Corporation. Every job Brooke ever undertook was, in some way or another, in service of others. She was selfless as she was strong and truly was a pillar of every single community she became involved in.

When not working a million hours a week to try and save the world, Brooke engaged in hobbies and interests as innumerable and broad as her career choices. Most notably at the end of her life, she was enamored with running, wood working, and crafting. Above all else, though, she cherished family, friends, and connections. She was dedicated to saving every single life she encountered and would never allow for failure in that pursuit. Brooke was also very strong in her faith and her dedication to a Godly life well lived, with her favorite bible verse being Phil. 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Brooke was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Roy (Papa) Palinkas, paternal grandparents Robert and Carolyn (Grammy) Jewell, and her grandparents in spirit David and Sylvia Kuch. She is survived by her beloved dog Jada, two baby ducks Cheese and Quackers, parents David B. Jewell and Melissa K. Jewell (Palinkas), brother Bradley R. Jewell and his wife Emily M. Jewell (Miller), husband Sean Szpak, and countless other family, friends, and acquaintances.

The empty space once occupied by her laughter and smile will forever be filled with the memory of Brooke’s kindness, loyalty, love, dedication, tenacity, joy, empathy, faith, and the darkest sense of humor ever contained in such a small package. Her loss, though tragic, has shown all of us just how many lives she had truly touched. To that end, in lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Thompson Fire Department.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Monarch Meadow Vineyard at 1599 State Rte. 534, Geneva, OH on August 29th, 2026 from 3pm to 9pm. We ask that you come to show your love for Brooke through celebration rather than sadness. Please consider bright colors for clothing, as this will be a party, not a funeral. Her favorite color was yellow, and the more yellow we have there, the better. If you have any questions pertaining to this gathering in Brooke’s honor, please contact Brad through Facebook messenger or text at (440) 812-3949.

Life doesn’t make sense when someone like Brooke is called away from all of us so soon. We will all miss her more than words can ever describe. It is painful when a person who cared so deeply, loved everyone unconditionally, and could light up the darkest corners of a room with her presence is now gone from this world. 14. Just as it’s written although my short time knowing Brooke (jewell to me) the long days in the short 6 1/2 months of her life and time spent with me truly helped me in ways I could never put into words or ever thank her enough for. She always made the days better for me when she was there. She genuinely listened to me and gave me words of encouragement and also super dark humor to cheer me up. I don’t think she even knew how much she impacted me or helped me. The world is worse without her however wherever she moved onto is soooo much better. I’m so sorry to spark and to her family and those who held her dear. She made an impact on the world and not many can really honestly say that.

  15. ill never forget her staring in the diary of anne frank, she was the life of theater and always kind to everyone. she treated everyone with dignity and respect. her smile brightened every corner of that high school.

  16. I am so sad I missed her celebration of life, as I’ve been watching and waiting for her obituary. Somehow, I missed it by just a week. Regardless, I’m so lucky and blessed to have known her. We have gotten to have some great talks, and she will always be my pint sized bad ass! I pray the Lord hold you in his arms and you finally rest.
