Basil A. (Bud) Thompson

Basil A. (Bud) Thompson passed away at home, welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, February 19, 2016. Bud was born in Spring Creek, W Va., on November 12, 1932 to parents Evelyn and Basil Alva Thompson. When he was a young boy his father left and mother remarried. His step- father, Harry White, who raised him and his 3 siblings, was the wonderful man he came to know as dad. Bud was a scholar of life. Unable to finish high school, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. While there he saw the world and fought in the Korean War. After leaving the Marines Corps he met and married his wife of 55 years, Nora B. Laird. He began work as a millwright, but loving the Arts, Sciences, Literature and Math he began to study and write. He wrote poetry, sold real estate and for 20 years researched the ASCII Code. Most importantly, he taught his children and grandchildren to love learning. Finally, at the age of 83 he published his first novel, entitled "Cometh Elijah." He proved then that a person doesn't need to have letters behind his name to demonstrate his worth. Bud is survived by his devoted wife, Nora, who cared tirelessly for him for his last 2 years of life. He is also survived by 4 of his children, Daniel D. (Annette) Thompson, Tammy Birch, Dana (Rocky) Pinkert and Michael D. (Yuna) Thompson; 14 grandchildren, Danielle (Tim) Mills, Elizabeth Carle, Amanda Carle, Rebecca (Josh ) Kerns, Alexandria Carle, Bradley Cochran, Cassandra Thompson, Benjamin Thompson, Blade Birch, Blas Pinkert, Seth Pinkert, Gavin Pinkert, Tiger Thompson and Jetson Thompson; many nieces and nephews from around the United States and 13 great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by mother, step father, 2 sisters and brother (all from Elkins, W Va), his oldest daughter, Kimberly K Carle-Weems, and his son-in-law, Ric Birch. There will be a graveside service for close friends and family on Friday, February 26th at 1:00 pm at the Monroe-Kelloggsville Cemetery. Finally, there will be a memorial service at a later date at the home of Nora Thompson. Arrangements are being handled by The Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio.
