Barbara Ann Spence

Barbara Ann (Berta) Spence, Age 73, of Madison, Ohio, passed over peacefully September 27, 2009 from the arms of her loving family to the loving arms of her LORD. Born March 31, 1936 in Madison. Barb enjoyed bowling, baseball and in 1975 became the first woman certified as an American Softball Association umpire in northeastern Ohio. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Recently she enjoyed traveling and meeting new people but most enjoyed being home with her children and grandchildren during her favorite time of the year?Christmas. She very much loved her two favorite furry kids, Bootsy and Trapper. She is survived by her four children, Cathy (Bob) Gager, William (Doug Johnston) Powell, Nancy (Andy) Assel and Roger J. Spence; grandchildren, Larry J. (Delilah) Advey, Jodi Advey; great grandchild Issac Advey; and her 3 sisters, Katherine Berta, Nancy Quickle & Sandra Blasko. She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine Foster-Berta & Joseph Berta; 6 brothers & 2 sisters. Place of burial will be Fairview Cemetery, Madison, Ohio. The family suggests contributions be made in her name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119-1330. She will be missed and thought of every day.
