Audrey June Gress, Age 76, of Madison, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at her home in Madison, Ohio.
Born August 28, 1934 in Geneva, Ohio to Alice (Kranjc) & Forrest Rhoads, she married Peter Alphonse Gress on November 3, 1956.
Audrey was the Owner/Operator of The Old Tavern, in Unionville, Ohio.
Audrey was a 1952 graduate of Geneva HIgh School where she received her varsity letter for cheerleading. She married Peter Alphonse Gress on November 3, 1956 after a 6-month courtship. They were married for 48 years. Audrey and her husband Peter were the proprietors of The Old Tavern in Unionville, Ohio from 1961-1985. They also owned The Red Geranium Antique & Gift Shop in Madison, Ohio from 1986 to 1999. Audrey and Pete enjoyed many winters at their home in Ft. Myers, FLA. Audrey was an accomplished baker and had won many awards for her pies and cookies over the years. In her retirement, she also enjoyed gardening. In the spring of each year, passers-by enjoyed the hundreds of tulips she planted in the gardens that surrounded her home.
She is survived by Children, Gregory Gress, wife Lisa Gress (nee Stengle) Ashtabula, OH, John Gress, wife Katherin Gress(nee Bassler) Indianapolis, IND, Geraldine ?Jed? Kessler Cleveland, OH; Grandchildren, Justin Gress, Alexandra Gress, Louise Gress, Audra Kessler,Victoria Gress, Casey Kessler,Caroline Kessler, Elliott Gress & Christopher Gress; Siblings, Betty Mowery, Gilbert Rhoads, & Pamela Plecha.
She was preceded in death by her, husband, Peter Alphonse Gress; Mother, Alice Rhoads; Father, Forrest Rhoads
Friends will be received 2-4 & 7-9:00 pm Sunday, September 12, 2010, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 175 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Monday, September 13, 2010 at Assumption Church, 594 W. Main St., Geneva, with Rev. Melvin Rusnak of Assumption officiating.
Final Resting Place will be at North Madison Cemetery in Madison.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assumption of the BVM Church, 594 West Main Street, Geneva, Ohio.
