Arthur Cocherell, Age 86, of Madison passed away peacefully Friday, July 24, 2009 at The Lantern assisted living home in Madison, Ohio. Born August 17, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Opal (Chapman) & Arthur Cocherell, he married Eleanor Copley on September 24, 1943 in Brady, Texas. He was a Chemical Engineer for Diamond Shamrock, retiring after 34 years. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1940, where he met his wife. Attended Army Air Corps training and piloted transport planes in SE Asia. He was particularly popular with the troops, making beer runs between the island of Biak and Australia. After the war, he graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1948. He worked for Diamond Shamrock and resided in Madison for 20 years before a transfer to Wilmington, NC. He spent 37 years in Wilmington before returning to Madison in 2008. He is survived by sons David (Jo-Ann) Cocherell of Euclid & Don (Darlene) Cocherell of Madison; 8 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; & Brother John (Tina) Cocherell of Bishop, CA He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 49 years, Eleanor; Daughter, Diane (Cocherell) Lee and son-in-law, Michael Lee. Private family services will be observed. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119. Arrangements are being handled by The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River Street, Madison, OHIO 44057.
