Anthony E. (Tony) Klaus
Tony Klaus, age 87, died early Tuesday morning, January 19, 2010 at home under hospice care and with family by his side. He was born in Cleveland May 3, 1922, the son of Caroline (Sega) and Frank Klaus. He has been a Harpersfield, Geneva resident for more than 60 years.
Tony served in the U.S. Army, 1st Division, WWII in the European Theatre being honorably discharged at Indiantown Gap, PA, January 13, 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Geneva VFW Post # 6846 and Geneva Eagle Lodge # 2243. He was a member of the OLFBP, union laborers local #245 in Ashtabula retiring after 23 years. Prior to that he operated Klaus?s Hilltop Tavern in Hapersfield.
He enjoyed following horse racing (learning the computer at age 77), visiting the Casino?s, gardening, playing pinochle, spoiling the dogs, feeding strays, and especially listening to polka music and playing the accordion.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn whom he married June 9, 1990; one son Frank (Teresa) Carter of Breezy Point, MN, two stepsons Garry (Dianna) Culton, Geneva, and Ed (Karen) Culton, South Russell, OH; three loving grandchildren Chad, Ebony, and Corry Culton; his Pomeranians Tom and his pet crow ?Tony?; along with several adoring nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank and Elmer, and sisters Caroline ?Lee? Klaus and Helen Kohli.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 22nd at The Behm Family Funeral Home in Geneva 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23rd at Assumption Church in Geneva.
Final Resting place will be at Harpersfield Cemetery.
Memorial contribution envelopes for Hospice of the Western Reserve or the APL of Kingsville will be available at the Funeral Home.
