Aloysius (Ted) Eland passed away peacefully Saturday after a sudden illness. Ted was a lifelong Ohio resident who never lived far from his childhood home on East Main Street in Madison Village. After graduating from Madison Memorial High School Ted served four years in the Navy from 1952 – 1956. Ted served on the USS Menhaden, a Balao-Class submarine, in the East and South China Seas and West Pacific. Upon returning to Madison in 1956 Ted joined Local 673 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and began his lifelong career as a construction electrician. Ted eventually served as the Assistant Business Manager of the Local and later was elected to his first of two consecutive terms as Business Manager of Local 673. In 2012, Ted was recognized for his 55 years of membership in Local 673. Ted held firm to his strong union beliefs his entire life. Ted graciously gave his time and leadership talents to other causes. Notably, Ted was a charter member of the Board of Trustees of Leadership Lake County from 1986 – 1994. Upon his retirement Ted traveled the country extensively with his wife Jill. In the past 15 years Ted and his wife enjoyed spending time in their summer place at Holiday Camp Lands in Andover, Ohio. Ted was preceded in death by his father Aloysius Eland, his mother Kathryn Eland and a brother, Lawrence Eland. Ted will also join in heaven his infant son Daniel. Ted is survived by his wife of 54 years Jill (Izzarelli), his brothers Robert of Texas and Donald of Madison. Ted is also survived by his four children; Michael of Fort Collins, Colorado; Alan (Joanne) of North Kinsgtown, Rhode Island, Mary (Bly) of Madison, Ohio and David of Frederick, Colorado. Ted has five grandchildren; Nicholas, Scotty, Zachary, Jacob, Elaina and Alexiss and one great grandson, Macks. Ted will be deeply missed by his many friends and extended family. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 74924, Cleveland, OH 44194-4924. Friends are welcome to join the family Wednesday, August 7th at Fairview Cemetery, located on River Street in Madison, at 12 noon for a graveside service.
