Reverend William Bill Alvey, 78, of Madison, passed away Sunday December 17, 2017 at the Lantern of Chagrin Valley, where he was serving as chaplain. Bill was born November 22, 1939 to William L. and Helen (Poole) Alvey in Steubenville, OH.
Bill was drawn in by the Love of Christ and at the young age of 8, he knew he wanted to be a Pastor. His course of faith and giving led straight on from there. He studied at Capital Divinity School and became an ordained minister in the Methodist Church, serving at Northern Hills, Crooksville, New Port, Greenville (where he met his wife, Linda Kae, after she fell off the church roof!), Toledo, Middlefield, Ashtabula Harbor, Bulah Calvary, Chapel, and Park United Methodist Churches.
But that wasnt enough for Rev. Bill…he gave not only to his congregations, but to his community. Bill was a Shriner and a Mason. He was a member of the Madison Historical Society and Eastern Star. Bill helped the Salvation Army and was a volunteer fireman in Crooksville. He even reached beyond the local community as a volunteer in Heifer International, a global nonprofit that works to eradicate poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based holistic community development. Bill may say, Miss me, but let me go… as he would so often read from a favorite poem….
Rev. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Kae; sons, William Edward (Dorothy) Alvey, Dennis Alvey, Timothy Alan Menger, Jamie Eugene (Shelly) Menger; 14 grandchildren; great grandchildren, Damian, Emma, Kylee; sister, Clara Lynn (Bill) Moran; and many loved nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents; grandson, Dylan Menger; and sister, Karen Montgomery.
