Resided in: Geneva, Ohio

Alexander Carl Taipale, beloved son of Rosemary and John Taipale, passed away in a tragic airplane accident on June 20, 2026, at the age of 40.
Raised in Orwell, Ohio, Alex grew up on his family’s farm alongside his three brothers, Jon, Jim, and Scott. He graduated from Grand Valley High School before attending Youngstown State University, where he studied Vocal Performance and Criminal Justice.
Alex possessed a natural gift for music that touched everyone who knew him. An accomplished pianist and gifted vocalist, he found great joy in performing and sharing his talents with others. Alex shared his love of music and frequently returned to his alma mater to mentor young band members, inspiring the next generation of musicians with his passion and encouragement.
After graduating from college, Alex dedicated himself to public service. He began his career as a deputy with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department and, following in his father’s footsteps, also served his community through Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Alex was ambitious and committed to serving his community and his nation. He enlisted in the Army, where he trained as a Black Hawk Helicopter Pilot and served as a Warrant Officer for seven years. His integrity, loyalty, and dedication through military service exemplified the values he lived throughout his life.
Alex loved flying, both professionally and as a hobby. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at Cuyahoga County Airport. He continued his military service by enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve. Alex took great pride in serving his country and never lost his dream of returning to professional flying. His love of aviation reflected his adventurous spirit and determination.
Above all, Alex will be remembered as a friend to everyone. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his loving mother, Rosemary Taipale; his three brothers, James (Elizabeth) Nemecek, Jon (Sarah) Nemecek, and Scott (Alicia) Taipale. Alex took great pride in his role as uncle to Mikayla, Kaden, Luke, Sam, Nolan, Lincoln, Noelle, and Delaney. Alex passed away with his father, John. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Beverly Taipale, and Marian and Carl Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions in Alex’s memory be made to the EAA Young Eagles Program, Chapter 5 at Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Rd, Hangar 3, Middlefield, OH, United States, 44062

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Although I hadn’t talked to him in years, he was a great person, always smiling and driven. We went through the police academy together at YSU. I remember him being full of life and never in a bad mood. Rest easy, brother.

  2. Even though I have not seen you in years,, every time I saw a plane in the sky, I thought of you and the beautiful music you played at Briar….I still do.
    RIP

  3. I met Alex in 2023 through the Hot Shop Heroes program at the Tacoma Museum of Glass, a glassblowing program for military service members and veterans. From the moment I met him, Alex always brought a smile, a joke, and a sense of warmth to every class, no matter what challenges he was facing at work or at home.

When we met up outside of class, Alex quickly won over my two sons. They always asked if “the funny guy” was going to be there because he made everyone around him laugh.

I remember how excited he was about moving back to the Midwest to be closer to his family. It breaks my heart that his life, and his father’s, were both taken so tragically as that dream unfolded.

I am deeply saddened by this unimaginable loss and am praying for his mother, his family, and everyone who knew and loved Alex. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him.

  4. He was a sane man in an insane world. More caring and compassionate than most people I’ve met in my life. He was the best of us, and the world is a shade darker without him in it. Alex was a great friend, and I miss him dearly.
