Vern E. Crookshanks, age 84 of Thompson, OH passed away, Friday, May 7, 2021. He was born October 10, 1936 to Howard and Eva (Rose) Crookshanks. He married Claudia Kay Wilbur on February 9, 1990 in Austinburg.
Vern was originally from Mentor, OH. He first worked at Shaeffer Roofing and later went out on his own as a roofer. He also worked for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in Concord until his retirement.
He was an avid roller-skater and loved going to Nascar and other races. He also enjoyed line dancing with Claudia. They enjoyed collecting classic cars which involved many fun experiences in traveling. He was also a member of First United Church of Christ in Austinburg. Vern was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, uncle and brother and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia (Wilbur) Crookshanks; daughter, Cheri (Rick) Janson; son, Leonard; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and sister, Vivien Tinner. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jean and Norine; and brothers, Neil and Wayne.
Private Family Services are being observed. Contributions may be made in memory of Vern to the First United Church of Christ, PO Box 253, Austinburg, OH, 44010 or the Thompson Fire Department, PO Box 204, Thompson, OH 44086.

When I was a little girl, I couldn’t pronounce my Uncle Vern’s name properly and called him Hunglebur. It became his forever nickname from me. I last saw my Hunglebur at my own father’s funeral (his brother, Wayne). I always loved him so. Funny and sweet. I hope he’s fishing or roller skating with my dad in heaven. ♥️
