Thomas Surbella

April 27, 1949 - September 20, 2022

Thomas Surbella, age 73, of Saybrook, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Saybrook Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born April 27, 1949 in Ashtabula the son of Michael and Sophie (Moronic) Surbella. He married Virginia Stone on September 22, 1990.

Tom worked as a welding instructor and inspector for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors fishing and working in his work shop and creating with stained glass. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Thomas (Maureen) Surbella Jr, Lisa (Kerry) Bowers, Kristine Surbella, Warren (Stacie) Williams and Justin (Deb) Williams; grandchildren, Devon, Meghan, Mya, Paige, Brooklyn, Matthew, Logan, Kayla, Dalton, Clay and Nathan; great granddaughter, Addison; brothers, Mike (Pat) Surbella and Craig Surbella. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Private Graveside Service with Military Honors will take place at Saybrook Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made in Tom’s name to Geneva VFW Post 6846, 76 Depot St, Geneva, OH 44041.

Sadness on Tom’s passing, but so many great memories. Starting at Perry Plant together after working many years at the Ashtabula plant. Lots of laughs, collaborations, and best of all, always a positive attitude (after a little complaining) RIP my pal.

I remember Tom as a member of Hellriegel's Inn Pearl Harbor Day Remembrance Committee. For the last five or six years Tom always helped hang the flags in Hellriegel's banquet room in preparation for the December 7th Remembrance dinner. And we could always count on Tom to be at Hellriegel's on December 8th to take down and store the flags. One year Tom also handmade for each of us a wooden Pearl Harbor Day memorabilia. A nice gesture.

Rest in peace Tom. You were a great friend as well as a co-worker. From our carpooling we got to know each other and shared many things.

Worked with Tommy 35 yrs. ago in crew 6. Lots of after wrok time playing horseshoes and tippin' a few beers. He made me a custom Mahogany gun case that is priceless. He was a kind and generous soul, sad to hear of his passing. R.I.P. old friend. My sincere condolences to his family.
