Russell E. Welsh Sr., age 95 of Madison, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at Lantern of Madison. He was born November 12, 1927 in Imler, PA, the son of Alfred C. and Catherine A. (Mann) Welsh.

Russ worked as a machinist and was a shop forman at Upson Machine products when he retired in 1992 after 37 years.

He served proudly in the United States Army as part of the 1st Infantry Division, The Big Red 1 and was an active member for many years, of the American Legion Post  601.

He was a master builder and crafstman and built his family homes as well as countless pieces of furniture.

He loved music and spent many hours playing guitar and working to improve his skills over the years.

Russ was preceeded in death by his wife Bernice of 54 years, his son in law John A. Vassallo, and his son Bryan Douglas Welsh, as well as parents Catherine (Mann) Welsh, and Alfred Welsh, and brothers Harold, Chuck, and Curtis.

He is survived by daughter Sandra Vassallo and son Russ Welsh Jr. (Linda) and daughter in law Annette, along with 8 grandchildren, Stacey Miscko (Steve), Jason Vassallo (Jaime), Joshua Vassallo (Erin), Russell Welsh (Lisa), Jessica Welsh, Justin Welsh, Meghan Horstman (Jake), and Connor Welsh, as well as 12 great grandchildren, Ryan Vassallo, Olivia Miscko, Seth Welsh, Lauryn Vassallo, Thomas Vassallo, Peyton Vassallo, Henry Welsh, Eleanor Welsh, Elsie Welsh, Luke Welsh and Frankie Horstman, and one great great grandchild, Ne’Veyah Vassallo.  He is also survived by brother RIchard and sisters Betty and Carol.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 8th  4-6 pm at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio.  A memorial will be held directly following visitation and Military Honors to follow at the funeral home.
