Peggy Joan (Burnett) Roberts, 71, passed away at her home in Madison, Ohio on Monday, May 8, 2023 surrounded by her family and friends. Peggy was born August 21, 1951 in Painesville, to Helen M. (Wheeler) and John W. Burnett. She married Lee Allan Roberts in 1971. Lee and Peggy lived on Liberty Street in Painesville for many years until moving to Trumbull Township in 1993 to live on 50 acres of their own private nature preserve.

Peggy grew up on Park Road in Painesville where she enjoyed riding horses and generally being a country girl. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1969 and became a free spirit of the 1960’s movement that called themselves “heads” but what history would eventually refer to as “hippies”. Peggy and Lee journeyed to California during this time to experience life, making many lifelong friends along the way.

Peggy and Lee’s next adventure took them to Iran for several years, where they lived and worked and experienced a culture that would remain an influence on them for the rest of their lives.

Later after returning to live in Ohio, Peggy worked at several local businesses. She attended Lakeland Community College where she studied graphic arts, kindling her love of art into a career by providing her creativity and graphic design expertise to local businesses. Expressing her love of art was an important theme throughout her life.

In mid-life she became an enthusiastic small business entrepreneur. She owned and operated Sign Stormers out of her Trumbull Road homestead, colloquially known as “Neck Achers”. She created signs, banners, and advertising materials for businesses and agencies across Ashtabula, Lake and Geauga Counties. Even now many of her signs and designs dot the local business landscape.

In her retirement she became a dedicated mandolin and bluegrass enthusiast, thoroughly enjoying the company of fellow musicians during long picking, singing, and musical jam sessions. In addition to her professional and artistic activities, Peggy’s life was focused on her love for her family and friends. Peggy was married to Lee Allan Roberts for 39 years until he passed away in 2010. She was the mother of Keturah (Eric) Kilbourn, Elijah (Jaime) Roberts, and Hannah (Shawn) Pilichis. She was the grandmother of Dylan Reid, Jaden Lee Kilbourn, Shea Meara Kilbourn, Jacob Allen Roberts, and Emma Rose Roberts. Additionally, she was the proud sister of John (Jan) W. Burnett, Jr.. She could often be found playing cards, games, or doing crafts with her loved ones.

Peggy’s underlying faith in Jesus gave her strength throughout life’s many hardships.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

At Peggy’s request there will be no traditional funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a time in the not-too-distant future. Her final resting place will be at the Perry Cemetery. The highest honor to Peggy would be for everyone to enroll as an organ donor and possibly give someone the gift of life that she was so fortunate to receive herself as a lung transplant recipient.
