Nancy May Cochran, born July 1st, 1953 lost her brief battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on April 30th, 2024. Nancy is preceded in death by her brothers Arthur Gutman and Clark Smith; her mother Nancy May Smith and her father Clark William Smith. At a young age Nancy knew she wanted to be a mother and she made that happen. She is survived by her four children Sybil (Leonard) Cybulski, Sarina (John Robinson) Cochran, Fred Cochran, and James Cochran; and by six grandchildren Derek (Brenda) McManus, Nik, Xeb, and Jar Cochran, and Karly and Keaton Cochran.

Nancy loved animals, she claimed they were more loyal than most people and always happy to see you. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Animal Protective League of Ashtabula County, she would like that. Nancy also believed that kindness was key to a happy life and she tried to live each day by setting that example. If you want to do something in her honor please do one random act of kindness today. Then do it again tomorrow and think of her when you do it and try to keep it going. Kindness matters, she always remembered people who were kind to her.

Nancy loved music, singing, and dancing. She played guitar and enjoyed going to concerts and places where she could dance. She loved watching movies and enjoyed her Sunday movie matinee days with her daughters. Horror movies were her jam, the scarier the better according to her, but she would watch rom-coms for the benefit of her daughters, because they just couldn’t hang.

Nancy loved traveling and camping. One of her favorite places to visit was West Virginia. She loved the mountains and the people. She also had a love for the laid back ways of southern California and for the majestic beauty of the purple mountains of Arizona. In her younger years she enjoyed knitting and sewing. She had a good eye for fashion and fabrics. She made herself and many of her loved ones shirts, pants, dresses, and skirts. She also knit scarves, hats, and mittens for her children who wore them until they outgrew them.

For the past year she lived in an assisted living home where she forged deep friendships and some became family. She had fun there and she enjoyed the staff and the company of her fellow friends, though she tried to hide it from her children. It was her little secret, or so she thought. Being the rebel that she was, she had her partner in crime, another resident whose name will not be mentioned, smuggle in contraband for her. Then she had another friend that will not be named, help stash it in her room. According to her, sometimes you need to break the rules and its best if you have friends who can help. She would want you to have friendships like these. She would also want you to be a little rebel, like her.
