Martin David Lustig, known fondley as Marty, passed away in his home town of Thompson Township at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer. He spent his last day with friends (probably sneaking a cigarette or two) and returned to the place he wanted to be most, at home with his wife Velma and his newest found furry best friend Lilly whom would spend countless hours cuddling in his lap.

A cornerstone of our community, Marty was a figure of strength and resilience, admired by all who had the priviledge of knowing him. Despite facing numerous health challenges over the past few years, he persevered with unwavering determination, his determined spirit serving as an inspiration to many.

Marty’s story begins in Thompson where he was born. He was the son of Dorothy and Vincent Lustig and the youngest of their three boys.  He is survived by his brother Vince, (Carol) and John (Jeanette).

Marty’s father took over their family’s farm, not knowing at the time, what a legacy he would be building. He grew up with his brothers on the farm learning all the tricks of the trade that would later help him succeed in taking over the family farm.  Marty later graduated from Ledgemont and served in the US Army as part of the esteemed Airborne Division, returning home after 2 years to resume working on the family farm with his father.

Farming became more that a livelihood for Marty; it was his passion.  Whether tending to livestock, harvesting crops, or caring for the land, Marty found solace and purpose in the rhythm of rural life and providing for his family with unwavering dedication. He took great pride in raising his two sons, Marty Jr, (Karla) and Sam (Danielle), and later welcomed a step daughter, Jessica (Tom) into his family with open arms.

Marty’s joy multiplied with the arrival of each new grandchild, he is survived by Mason, Logan, Taylor, Chase, Olivia and Jordan. He cherished every moment he got to spend with each of them imparting wisdom and sharing stories that will hopefully be treasured for generations.

When not farming, or running a business, Marty enjoyed his gun club, shooting and wood working as well as sharing a drink with friends, fishing, sharing a delicious meal, and watching old History classics.  He almost never lost a game of liars poker and probably took your money a time or two throwing quarters or making a bet.

Marty’s legacy will endure through the memories and MANY stories he created and the lives he touched.  His strength, Kindness, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the priviledge of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 2 pm February 24, 2024 at Plank Road Tavern, 16431 US 6, Montville, OH  44064.  We will be having a pig roast, so please come prepared to share a meal over drinks as Marty would have wanted.
