Leo Wirfel, 83, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He was born on October 11, 1938 in New Germany, PA to the late John and Genevieve (Illig) Wirfel. Leo married Joann Minor on July 23, 1960 and they made their home in Madison.
Leo retired from Uniroyal Chemical after 33 years. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus #5286. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, country couples dancing with Joann and being a competitive card player. Most of all he cherished spending time with his family.
Leo is survived by his wife, Joann, of 61 years; children, Lisa (David) Mykytiuk, Carolyn Wirfel, Kevin (Cheryl) Wirfel, Janeane (Jim) Murphy, Brian (Felicia) Wirfel; eight grandchildren, Sara (Kory), Ashley (Andre), Cassandra, Lora, Craig (Deanna), James, Britton, and Collins; three great-grandchildren, Kamden, Hadley, Judah, and soon to arrive Noelle; siblings, Ronald (Roseanne) Wirfel, Delores (Denny) Bodenschatz, Michael (Jean) Wirfel, Marjorie Gallardy, and Suzette (Joseph) Spinner. He was preceded in death by his grandson Nathan; parents; brothers, Camillus, Herbert, Joseph and Donald.
Friends and family will be received from 2 – 6 PM Sunday, October 31, 2021 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St. in Madison.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church, 2846 Hubbard Rd. in Madison, with Father Sean Donnelly officiating.
