Joy Hiers, age 80, of Geneva, passed away Friday, August 6, 2021, at UH Geneva Medical Center. She was born September 24, 1940, in Adrian, Michigan, the adored only child of Homer and Mary Jane (Brown) Cramer. She married Paul Richard Hiers in St. Joseph, Michigan on July 3, 1959, and remained his wife and friend until her passing.
In addition to being a beloved wife and mother, Joy enjoyed a long career, working at various times as a cafeteria monitor, an administrative assistant, an insurance and securities salesperson, and the transportation director for Madison City School District. She retired from Progressive Insurance in 2007. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, playing the piano, singing, debating, laughing, and taking day trips with her devoted husband of 62 years. She made the most amazing macaroni and cheese and, while not formally credited, her children remain convinced she invented the bowl haircut.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Lori (Christopher) DeCamillo, Paul Hiers Jr, Amy Hiers, and Wesley (Katie Wooten) Hiers; grandchildren, Christopher (Emily) DeCamillo Jr, Sara (DeCamillo) Pelayo, and Kyle Hiers; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Pelayo and Andrew DeCamillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Polly Hiers.
Friends will be received from 2-4 pm, Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Behm Family funeral Home, 175 South Broadway, Geneva. A Memorial Service will be held immediately following at 4 pm.
