George Edwin Davis Jr

February 22, 1939 - June 11, 2021

George Edwin Davis Jr, age 82, of Thompson, passed away June 11, 2021 peacefully at home with family by his side after a 7 month battle with complications from a collasped bile duct. He was born February 22, 1939 in Cleveland, the son of Mary Agnes (Simon) and George Davis Sr. He married Roberta Grace Roberts on March 6, 1965 in Cleveland.

George was the Geauga County Commissioner’s Building Maintenance Dept Director for 24 years, retiring from there in 2008. In his earlier years he worked for Republic Steel as well as for Wickliffe Truss in Perry and for Dyson in Painesville. He also was the proud owner/operator of Davis Landscaping. He was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, served on the Geauga County Airport Authority, the Republican Party Central Committee, the Ledgemont School Board, the Geauga County O.P.E.R.S. Board Committee and the Thompson Zoning Board of Appeals. His passion was farm tractors. He was particularly fascinated with the history of the Fordson Tractors made in England, showing his various Fordson tractors throughout Ohio with pride. He was a member of the Historical Engine Society and looked forward yearly to their annual tractor show. He also loved his special Texas Edition GMC truck. He enjoyed traveling, visiting every continent except Asia. He loved watching western movies on the Grit channel and studying the history of World War 2. George Graduated from Kirtland High School in 1958. He treasured attending monthly dinners with his Kirtland High School classmates even in 2020. As a youth he was active in Lake County 4H and was the Fair King. He was a member of the George A. Masonic Lodge in Willoughby and was active in the Al Koran Shriners Cleveland and Motor Corp in Cleveland.

He leaves behind his wife Roberta; son George E. Davis III; daughter, Sarah Davis; and sister Barbara (Chick) Morse. He was preceded in death by brother, Ronald James Davis and his parents.

He had so much knowledge and could tackle anything thrown his way. A true person that I admired when we worked together and very thankful God put me in George's journey.

I worked with George at Geauga County for a couple of years before he retired. I have always been grateful for his kindness to me in showing me around the county, sharing his long history with the work there, and allowing me to help him. His insights gave me context for my relationships with co-workers. After he retired and started to travel, I asked him to bring me a rock from Egypt and he did. Thanks, George! Vaya con Dios.
