For Dianne…. Tonight down by the lake shore All is quiet.. all is still… One lonely gull slips through the sky Without a call or trill…. They say the waves keep sorrows Too deep to understand… The waves keep close a memory now… The memory of Dianne….. The wind might stir the water’s edge Cat paws dancing on the shore… By the seawall speak the little breaks Where her voice is heard no more… Ten thousand golden sunsets… Ten thousand sunrise morns… Where once upon a time.. She watched with Bill in calm and storm If ever she would call you friend She’d move the world for you… Big Brothers and Big sisters Of that… indeed… they knew! And all the Christmas lights On many a Christmas tree Were testament to her love They’d shine for all to see… In a place where sand meets water Where the howling winds might climb You might hear Dianne’s echo When she sometimes spoke her mind…. Never with a tone of hate.. More of firm resolve…. And the will to get things done until A problem might be solved… And finally there was laughter Like the rolling waves as well… Splashing in the sunlight With all the world to tell Of how love grows and grows And through years does not abate Steadfast through the many days ‘Til she might join her mate… Today we light a candle … And give the flame it’s breath The mysterious glow calls now to peace Sending light to banish death In love we turn to look behind Of that there is no doubt We see the smile that still might shine When Dianne’s candle has gone out….. …That special smile that still might shine Our Dianne’s candle has gone out…..

I had the privilege of our friendship for just a few recent years. But it was a privilege, and my prayers and thoughts are with you. Be at peace.
