Debra Dianne Skokan passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2024, in Granbury, Texas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John M. Skokan, who was called home in November of 2019. Debra was born August 1st, 1953, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, to her now late parents; Delmar Penley and Agnes Jewell Mullins (Penley/Marshall).

Debra was the loving mother to six children; daughter Taraysa Skokan, son Mark Skokan, daughter Kimberly Skokan, youngest son James Skokan, daughter Deidre Skokan, and youngest daughter Windy Lopez (Skokan). She was also the proud grandmother to five grandchildren; Ember, Kyle, Michelle, Richard, and Elizabeth. Of Debra’s five dear siblings, she is survived by her older sister Rhonda Wright and younger brother Lee Penley. She was preceded in death by her younger sisters Marlena Hitterman and Doris Vaughn, and her older sister Brenda Penley.

Debra was a devoted wife and mother. She had a very busy household but still managed to work full time. She attended cosmetology school when her oldest children were young and worked for over a decade as a beautician, focusing on hairdressing and makeup application. When her youngest daughter was of school age, she decided to extend her reach of care for others into the medical field. She attended Youngstown State University and graduated at the top of her class with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She spent many years working in various areas of nursing and found her calling as a hospice and palliative care nurse. She enjoyed helping others feel cared for and comfortable during their end of life transition. She was a strong, caring, and devout woman. Although she will be dearly missed be all who love her, her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she was received by the Lord with open arms.

Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 South Broadway in Geneva. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, February 16, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Willoughby Memorial Gardens.
