Carolyn Eleanor (Taylor) Reger, 89, peacefully passed away on Friday,
April 5, 2024 at Trinity Community in Beavercreek, Ohio. She was born July 27,
1934 in Andover, Ohio to Raymond and Gladys (Eastlake) Taylor. She graduated
valedictorian of the Class of 1952 at Williamsfield High School and married
James L. Reger on Dec. 5, 1954.
Carolyn worked for Hughes Heating Co. in Andover, D.M. Webb Motor Co.
in Ashtabula, and the Ashtabula Credit Bureau. In 1959, she and her husband
bought Eagle Hill Orchards in Geneva, later named Reger’s Fruit Farm and
Market. Together with the family, they built up a successful farm, market, and U-
Pick business, employing many in the community. After James’ death in 2001,
she sold the farm and began volunteering for Hospice of the Western Reserve,
and served as the Faith in Action Interchurch Geneva Food Pantry treasurer, as
well as an AARP Free Income Tax Counselor for many years. She also worked
for a number of years transplanting in the greenhouses of the Kusar Farms in
Jefferson.
Carolyn was a 50-year member of the United Church in Geneva where
she served as choir director, church treasurer, lay reader and a member of the
music committee. She sang for years in the Chancel Choir and played in the Bell
Choir. A charter member of the Geneva Community Choir, Carolyn had a
beautiful voice and sang all over Ohio and western Pennsylvania for churches,
weddings, and programs for organizations and groups. Her hobbies included
garage sales, flea markets, reading, pencil games, jigsaw puzzles and quilting.
Carolyn was a prolific quilter making more than 125 beautiful quilts of various
sizes. She sold very few quilts, preferring to give them away to family and
friends. She was a vegetable judge at the Great Geauga Fair for nearly 20 years
and worked tirelessly for the church’s Purple Cow (grape juice and vanilla ice
cream) booth at Grape Jamboree for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her daughters Beth Reger (Tory), Nancy Broughton
(George), Jo Reger (Angel) and Amy Kemper (Jeanne) and her son James R.
Reger (Charlotte). She was blessed with 10 grandchildren — Jake Golding
(Heather), Adam Broughton (Robyn), Katie Broughton, Seth Broughton (Meg),
Thomas Wilson (Evelyn), Jack Reger (Brittany), Lauren Kemper, James “Cal”
Reger, Elise Kemper and Faith Reger. She also had the joy of knowing her great
grandchildren Lena and Neve Broughton.
Burial will be at Kelloggsville Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m.
Friday, April 12th at Behm’s Funeral Home, 175 S Broadway, Geneva, OH 44041.
The funeral will be April 13th at 11 a.m. at the United Church, 75 S Broadway, Geneva, OH.
