Alan was a true and loyal friend to all that knew him. He was one of the few people that I have encountered in my many different experiences that was apolitical and sought after the best solution. Al was always teaching and we all were able to learn a lot from him over the years both in the fire profession and in our private lives. I am so glad I was able to spend many hours with Al over the last few weeks—Al never changed—he was always interested in others and concerned about those around him more than himself. Al was truly one of a kind and a friend that made an impact on my life and everyone he knew. I count it a privilege that Al was a friend to me and my family and one of the best co-workers in the fire service that i was able to serve with. Thanks to Al for making a positive difference in this crazy world. God Bless you Al!
Tim Nelson left a message on January 7, 2024:
RIP AVK Firefighters always called each other “brother” - but you were truly like a “big brother” to me. I will always value your (work & life) advice & the great times we had on-duty / off-duty. I am especially grateful that you mentioned being recently baptized & giving your heart to Jesus (during our last visit). That means we are not saying “goodbye” - just “see you later”…

Was shocked and saddened to read of Alan's passing. Many memories of Alan as he began his fire fighting career as a young man with Harpersfield Fire Department. Alan was eager to learn, smiling, kind and caring, and it was always a pleasure to work with him. My sincere condolences to his family.

I hold dear many fond memories of Alan. From the first time I met him in Geneva ER, 30 years ago. He was always kind, compassionate, and professional. Always a smile or willing to help. Made the best “special “ lemonade at the Beef Roast to be shared with friends. Many times stopped to say hi as he passed me walking the neighborhood. The community has lost one of the good guys, and he will be missed. May he Rest In Peace always.

My deepest sympathies and prayers for the family and the Madison Fire District. As a utility worker working in the field I have had the pleasure of working with Mr Van Kramer in the field over 22 years and can’t express enough on how professional and knowledgeable he was. He always had a positive kind and caring attitude.

I worked with Alan early on in both of our careers. He was always very easy to work with and he and I were both at the same points of our careers in the fire service. His passing is something that really hits home and I can only pray that his friends and family find comfort in knowing he isn't suffering anymore. God Bless Brother.
