Wylodine Hood Chapin, age 90 of Mentor, passed away Friday, November 28, 2025 at Tri-Point Medical Center. She was born June 21, 1935 in Painesville to Wylodine and Martin Lederer. She Married Bradley G. Chapin on August 31, 1957.

She was a 1953 Graduate of Willoughby Union High School. For the past 25+ years she has enjoyed an annual reunion with 8 ladies from her graduating class. Wylodine was employed at TRW in the Jet Division upon her graduation. She also worked at Addressograph-Multigraph as a private secretary. After raising her children, she returned to work at Lake County Nursery in Perry where she was employed for 20 years. Later working at Herman Losely & Son Nursery and Brotzman’s Nursery in Madison, where she considered the Brotzman’s as family. Wylodine loved her home in Unionville, was the secretary for the Unionville Boosters, and looked forward to the annual flea markets. She was a member of South Madison Bible Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary for many years. She also served on various committees and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. For many years she filled her car with children, bringing them to church and then Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her daughters, Allyson (James) Schmidt, Jane (Rob) Hanson; Son, Matthew Chapin and brother, David Phoebus. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bradley G. Chapin; son, Martin Chapin; 2 infant children; mother, Wylodine Beres; father, Martin Lederer; step-father, George Phoebus; step-father, Stephen Beres and brothers, George Phoebus and Ralph Lederer.

  1. I truly enjoyed working with “Willie” at LCN in the mid 1080’s.
    I still remember her signing the “New Shoes” song whenever someone wore new shoes……rest well, my friend.
