Toinie S. Komssi

Toinie S. Komssi, 101, of Madison, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008 Cozy Acres Care Home in Madison. She was born October 31, 1907 in South Range, Michigan, to Matilda (Klamppu) & Isak Komssi. She was a Department Supervisor at Diamond Shamrock (Diamond-Alkali) in Cleveland, retiring in 1972 after 30 years. She had been a resident of the Painesville/Willoughby / Madison Area since 1932, moving from Minnesota. Member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor since 1932, Altar Guild, Women?s Group within the church, and Zion Lutheran Church Women. Began working career as a Sales Clerk with Diamond Alkali Co. in September 1942 and became the first woman Department Supervisor in the company. Enjoyed traveling to Europe, Finland, Hawaii, Italy, and Greece. Was an excellent seamstress and, after retiring, repaired and dressed many dolls. In retirement, helped to raise her ?beloved Amy Hessler-Skinner?, who now is a doctor, and whose daughter, Mia, was named in honor of Toinie. She is survived by 2 Sisters, Ruth Plante of Madison and Aune Hummel of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her Parents; 3 Sisters, Marie Pierce, Martha Cummings, and Ellen Herlin; 5 Brothers, Kosti, Tiovo, Reino, Earl and Arvo Komssi Friends will be received 10-11:00 am, Monday, December 22, 2008 at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Madison, Ohio, Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Monday, December 22, 2008, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River Street, Madison. Final Resting Place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
