Sara S. Dean, age 89 of Geneva, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ surrounded by her family, on Friday, August 30, 2013. Born May 8, 1924 in Urbana, Ohio she was the daughter of Nelle (Duncan) & John T. Sommers, Sr. Sara married James G. Dean on June 29, 1946. She will be remembered by all for her homemade cookies and kind notes. Sara was a 1945 Graduate of Ohio State University and received a Masters in Education from Lake Erie College in 1983. A teacher for Geneva City Schools Sara retired in 1998 after 34 years. Sara received the Friends of Education Award in 2000. She was an active member of the Geneva First United Methodist Church where she served on all boards, she was a member of UMW and taught Sunday school. She was also a charter member of Modern Literary Forum, and belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was awarded an honorable mention for the book she wrote, "The Old Yellow House." She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, James G. Dean; Daughters, Mary Helen (Charles) Tipton of Streetsboro OH; Jeanette Kay (Louis) DeJesus of Geneva OH; Sons, Dennis Wilson (Elizabeth) Dean, of Nashville, TN; Douglas Duncan (Shannon) Dean, of Geneva OH; 16 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; Sister,Jean Briggs of Fredricksburg, OH; Brother, Donald R. Sommers, of West Union, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents; Sons, Roger Thomas and James David Dean; Brothers, Hugh and John T. Sommers, Jr. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041. A celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Geneva First United Methodist Church, 89 S. Broadway, Geneva with Rev. Bruce Hitchcock officiating. Place of burial will be at Harpersfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Geneva United Methodist Church, Memorial Commission at 89 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041.
