Raymond Shortie Cromwell

Raymond John "Shortie" Cromwell, of Madison passed away Monday, October 22, 2012, surrounded by his family. Raymond was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on February 11, 1918. He lived in Madison, Ohio for over 65 years.
Raymond was an electrical engineer. He retired from Uniroyal in Painesville.
Raymond enjoyed traveling, especially in Canada. He took his family on many vacations, first by trailer, then on his cabin cruiser on the Trent Severn Waterway and on Lake Erie. He and his late wife, Lucy Frieda Whipple Cromwell, went back to trailering and traveled to the Western U.S., Mexico, Myrtle Beach and Florida. Raymond was a steam engineer and a steam engine enthusiast with extensive knowledge of the history of steam engines and railroad lines in the United States. Often their vacations included a ride on an historic train. In later years, Raymond and his son, Eric, enjoyed returning to Canada on fishing trips as far North as Moosonee, Ontario and James Bay. At home, he could often be found in his shop making furniture or wooden toys.
He is survived by sons, Larry (Gracie) Cromwell and Eric (Kathy) Cromwell and daughters, Sandra Perell and Connie Rae (Don) Malize. Raymond's grandchildren are Laurie, Seth, Joel, Sarah, Jennifer, John and David. His great grandchildren are Kara and Heather. Raymond's great-great-grandchildren are Sean and Mikayla; also survived by his wife, Maria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret (McDonald) Cromwell; four sisters and a brother (in childhood); his sister, Dortha; his first wife, Mabel Elizabeth Parsley; his second wife of 40 years, Lucy Frieda Whipple Cromwell; his son, Ronald James Cromwell (in infancy); his son-in-law, Ora "Joe" Thompson; his son-in-law, John Perell and his granddaughter, Susan Perell (in infancy).
Friends will be received 10 AM – 12 PM, Thursday, October 25, 2012, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio.
Funeral Service will be at 12 noon, Thursday, October 25, 2012, at The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26 River Street, Madison.
Final Resting Place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Madison.
