Margie Winona Henry Sale

margie winona henry sale
An era ends with the passing of Margie Winona Henry Sale, age 101 of Willis, Texas.  Margie, Mother, Mom, Grandma, Gram, Granny, Aunt Margie passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on April 4, 1922 to George Givens Henry and Willie Ina Holeman Henry in Sturgis, Kentucky and lived most of her family raising years in Madison, Ohio. Margie was a force to be reckoned with, forged in fire like her vintage Erie cast iron skillet, she was strong, seasoned and her tenacity will live on. As God as her compass, she was a spiritual, strong-willed, courageous and spirited woman with lots of opinions and determination. She began her long life as a Kentucky country girl playing basketball in a handmade uniform from her mother and jumping the tracks on her way to school. She and her sister Gretna loved going to dances and visiting Auntie Mae and the cousins.  Before long, she became the young wife of a soldier, beloved mother, homemaker and hard working woman.  Her first job was in a cafeteria in Sturgis, Kentucky, others included working at the Industrial Rayon Corporation for 22 years in Painesville, Ohio, Klatka Furniture, Inc. in Madison, Ohio as a sales lady for a number of years, and finally as a housekeeper at the former NEO Hospital in Madison, Ohio until she retired. Those Great Depression Era ethics continued until her dying day in her daily routines, her willingness to help, her love and concern for her family (and friends), her priorities and her “glass half full” attitude toward life. This attitude made the hardships of growing old a little easier for her and those entrusted to care for her. She loved her family! She traveled not only between her families in Ohio and Texas every year but enjoyed any invitation for adventures to be had. Some of her best stories included her trip with Gary & Pat Bodak and girls on their Midwest motorhome adventure, Willie Nelson concerts, Drag Races and Car Shows and her last big car trip through the states with her granddaughter Stephanie at 98 years old, heading to live out the rest of her years in Texas.  She LOVED garage sales second to family and friends and always had $1.98 ready to buy her next treasure. She passed down that love of a good deal!  She loved sweets and made sure all her family knew that you should eat dessert first, she wanted to play dominoes any time the family gathered and wore out many decks of cards; teaching all the children Solitaire (Ole Sol), Rummy and reluctantly, Go Fish. Camron, Mason and then Maggie became her most formidable opponents. She is survived by her daughter Marcia Carole Bodak and husband Steve D. Bodak, Jr., daughter Anita Hvasta and husband Michael Hvasta, and son William Randall Sale and wife Connie Buck Sale; seven grandchildren and their families; Stephanie Bodak Nicholson, Stacey Bodak Scott and husband Charles Scott, Season Bubier Bodak, Terry Lynn Freeman, William Anthony Sale, Todd Alan Sale, Lucas Garrett Hvasta; fourteen great grandchildren and their families; Shonna Rae Manes, Shay Elise Nicholson, Kyle Clifton Freeman, Skylar Elle Mack, Olivia Rachel Sale,  Samuel Charles Sale, Gabor Adam Nicholson, Caleb Scott Nicholson, Emma Jane Chupik, Austin Riley Sale, Thane William Bodak, Dylan Anthony Sale, Mackenzie Manes, Taylor Manes, Eva Margaret “Maggie” Nicholson, Micah Manes and Michael Ellis Hvasta. Dearest friends Emma Mae Hill, Lori Riffle Pfeiler, Karen Morris, Danielle Freeman, Gary Bodak, Rick and Shirley Jones and a hundred years worth of extended family and friends.
