Jeffery M. Loxterman, age 57, passed away in New Mexico on December 30, 2012. He was born November 4, 1955 in Painesville, Ohio and graduated from Riverside High School in Painesville in 1974. Jeff served his country honorably for 17 years; first as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, and then as Staff Sergeant with the US Army Special Forces Command. As a Green Beret, he spent considerable time abroad in both Africa and Germany. In 1995, Jeff earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Findlay in English & Equestrian Studies. He later received a Breadloaf Fellowship to study at Middlebury College, where he graduated with a master's degree in English. Through his graduate work Jeff discovered a love of teaching and spent a number of years as a high school English instructor on the Navaho Reservation and enjoyed the Navaho culture & spiritualism. Jeff was both a musician and equestrian in his spare time. As an animal lover, he always went out of his way to help animals in need. He was known for taking in homeless dogs and finding them permanent homes or caring for them himself; as was the case with his three remaining dogs: Oscar, Bob and Lucy. Survivors are his wife, Laura Migdal; mother, Barbara Loxterman; daughter, Rebekah Sokol; son-in-law, Keith Sokol; he was looking forward to the expected granddaughter, Lilly Sokol; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew J. Loxterman. Friends will be received 1-3 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio. Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM.
