Gene Secor

Gene Secor, age 82, was born on August 8, 1929 in Perry, and was a lifetime Perry resident. She passed away at her home on December 21 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Gene was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Hester Lawrence, and her loving husband Jim of 54 years. She is survived by her sons Douglas (Kathy) Secor of Perry, Larry Secor of Perry and daughter Sharon (Dennis) McCarthy of Yorktown Virginia; grandchildren, Theresa, Aaron, Jenna and Dennis II; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Anthony and Neil; long-time family friend and co-worker Mary Cain. She was a graduate of Perry High School and was the Valedictorian of her class. Gene was the owner of Secor s Nursery and worked in the office and farm market for 50 years. The Nursery Growers of Lake County recognized her with an Honorarium Award in 2010 for her lifetime service to the nursery industry. She loved greeting customers and helping people every day of her life. She was very active in her community Perry Township serving as the Deputy Clerk from 1976 to 1977; Zoning Commission Board from 1966 to 1997; and Board of Zoning Appeals from 1976 to 1984. Gene volunteered for Meals on Wheels and started the first Ski Club for Perry Schools in 1968. She was a member of Perry United Methodist Church. Gene Secor worked at the Rayon for 5 years. She had fond memories of her friends; co-workers; family vacations in Canada, Florida and Virginia. Friends may call from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm Monday December 26, 2011 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St. Madison, Ohio. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday December 27, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Jensen of Perry United Methodist Church officiating. Internment will follow at Perry Cemetery.
