Edward J. “Ed” Miller, 83, of Broadview Heights, OH, died peacefully at his home September 9, 2025, surrounded by family. Born July 8, 1942, in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of Edward H. Miller and Doris E. (nee Armbruster) Miller. Ed was a graduate of John Carroll University studying speech and Radio/TV. He had a long-time career in broadcast engineering: he developed the Cleveland Board of Catholic Education’s radio station CCER-FM; served WEWS-TV, ABC affiliate channel 5 as Audio Director, Engineering Promotions Supervisor, and finally Engineering Operations Supervisor thru 1997; in 1998 Ed joined Patlin Electronics as a Consultant/Project Manager and retired in 2001 from Pro Video Systems in Perrysburg, OH as Vice President of Engineering. Ed also served as a communications consultant to local school systems; was a regular lecturer at area colleges, universities and public forums; served as Technical Advisor to the Cleveland chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and served on their Board of Governors. Ed was Chairman of the Cleveland Chapter of the Society of Broadcast Engineers. He was elected President of the National Society of Broadcast Engineers (NSOBE) in 1998, ultimately becoming a “Fellow”, which is the highest honor bestowed on any member of NSOBE. Other awards and recognition include Cleveland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences “Silver Circle” Award for 25+ years of service as well as their “Governor’s Citation” Award for outstanding individual technical achievement for his efforts coordinating the broadcast of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Grand Opening ceremonies. He was passionate about model building, woodworking and refurbishing antique furniture.

Ed’s greatest legacy is the loving family he leaves behind. Married to Dolores (nee Sustarsic) for 60 years, they were inseparable, even using Ed’s amateur radio operator status to keep her company in rush hour traffic before cell phones. He is also survived by sons Ronald (Deirdre) Miller of Broadview Heights; Gary (Lori) Miller of Macedonia; Jeffrey (Tami) Miller of Strongsville. Grandfather to Chloe (Matthew) Spiewacki; Ava (Brandon Lamcha) Miller; Andrew (Jessica) Miller; Ashley Miller; Amie (Trevor) Shires; Joy (Josh) Ramos and Jeffrey (Courtney) Miller. GreatGrandfather to Jackson, Lily, Sophia, Gabby, Eliza and Graham. Also survived by a sister-in-law Lucille (Tim) McKenna. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Loretta J. Dakters in 2007 and his brother-in-law J. George Dakters in 2024. Family will receive friends Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 10 am until the time of an 11AM funeral mass at Church of the Assumption, 9183 Broadview Road, Broadview Heights, OH 44147.
