Carol Jean Hein (nee Cooper), of Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully in Concord, Ohio on March 29, 2026. She was 92. Carol was born on March 1, 1934, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Charles G. and Emma (nee Melcher) Cooper. She married Bernard P. Hein on September 17, 1955.
Carol is survived by her son Kris P. Hein (Cammellia) of Geneva, OH, daughter Kristina M. McConnell (Craig) of Chardon, OH, her son David P. Hein (Jeanie) of Thornton, WV, her brother Dwight Cooper (Tracy) of Colorado Springs, CO, sister Diane Rothaermel of Kent, OH, her beloved grandchildren: Nicole DiFillipo, Jessica Wright, Joshua Hein, Jacob Hein, Joseph Hein and great-grandchildren Phillip, Eli and Evalynn Wright and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard P. Hein (Bernie), who passed away in 2000. Carol’s family moved to Madison, Ohio when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Madison High School. She worked alongside her husband and children in numerous businesses including Hein’s Nursery and Landscaping, Western Reserve Florist and Garden Center, Country Home Florist and Hallmark Shoppe, and C.H.R. Industries; all in the local area. She was an active member and supporter of many organizations, including the ASPCA, St. Jude’s Hospitals for Children, World Vision, and the churches at which she worshipped. She had a zest for the Lord and was looking forward to going home to be with him.
Her passions included all things dealing with flowers, shrubs and trees including flower arranging, sketching, painting, crocheting, macrame, reading books and travelling with family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 3rd, 2-4 p.m. at Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street in Madison. A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held for Carol on Saturday, April 4th at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 250 Bowhall Rd., Painesville, Ohio 44077.
In lieu of flowers, it was Carol’s wish that donations be given to any of her favorite charities … St. Jude’s, World Vision and the ASPCA. Carol’s final resting place is at Madison Memorial Cemetery on Arcola Road in Madison next to her husband, Bernard. The Behm Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
