Frank William Slanina II

frank slanina ii

Frank William Slanina II entered into eternal peace on May 4th, 2025. He was born July 9, 1934, to Milo and Edith Slanina (nee Schwentker).  Frank was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula County and a graduate of Geneva High School in 1954. Frank served his country as a member of the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a lifelong dairy and grape farmer. He proudly sold his grapes to Welch’s with the help of family and friends, and during his childhood years, produced maple syrup on the family farm. He also drove buses for Geneva Local Schools for many years.

Frank married the love of his life, Sanna Slanina (nee Burlingame) on November 18th, 1961. Frank and Sanna were married for 63 wonderful years, and spent those years nurturing a family, tending to the farm, and later in life, spending every minute they could with their loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank will be remembered for his generosity to his neighbors; always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved riding his motorcycles, and could be seen – for many years, riding up and down the many streets of Geneva and Harpersfield. To his grandchildren, he will forever be “Papa,” known for his plaid shirts and love of grape pie.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Milo and Edith, brother, Richard Slanina, and daughter-in-law, Linda Slanina (nee. Mullins). He is survived by his wife Sanna Slanina; his three children; Frank Slanina III (Michelle), Barbora Caponi (Philip), and Stacy Smothers (Marc); nine grandchildren; Shane Slanina (Marija), Heidi Legg (Timothy), Craig Slanina, Quintin Caponi (Katie), Kaleb Smothers (Nikki), Alexis Caponi, and Kyle Smothers, Rio and Riley Caya; and his five great-grandchildren Jase and Aubree Legg, Haisleigh Johnston, Harper Smothers, and Gabe Fowler.

Friends will be received from 10 am to 12 noon on May 17, 2025 at Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 South Broadway in Geneva with a Service immediately following at 12 Noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to the Hospice of Western Reserve. PO Box 72101, Cleveland, Ohio  44192.
