Esther Wasulko, age 95, formerly of Geneva and Madison passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 at Parkvue Health Center in Sandusky OH. She was born August 25, 1929 in Cokeburg, PA to Richard Cursi and Gloria (Marsoli). She married William Basil Wasulko in Charleroy, PA on November 28, 1950.
The best moments of her life were when she was with her family where she lovingly was more known as Nonnie or the “Queen Mum”. The world has lost some of its brightness and is a bit sadder for the “Wasulko” crew as some of their best moments were also involving her. As much she loved her children and grandchildren with a profound intensity, the feelings were reciprocated in full force. Family dinners were always filled with joy when she was present, as her delightful stories and playful misinterpretations of double entendres brought endless laughter. Her culinary contributions to these gatherings have become cherished traditions, now lovingly carried on by her family, Nonnie’s Stuffing will always live on each Thanksgiving.
Esther’s lifelong passion for education was evident in all she did. While pursuing her teaching degree at university, she demonstrated remarkable dedication by balancing her studies while spending her days inside the classroom. Graduating Summa Cum Laude, Esther’s academic achievements reflected her perseverance and love of learning. She devoted 28 years to teaching at Geneva Area City Schools, where her warmth and guidance inspired generations of students. Esther’s legacy as an educator lives on in the countless lives she touched before her retirement in 1990. She cherished her years as a Kindergarten teacher, leaving a lasting impact on the very first learning experiences of countless children. Beyond the classroom, Esther’s lessons extended far deeper—she taught the importance of perseverance, the power of kindness, and the value of family absolutely above all else. Her hope was that each of us, when our time comes, will leave the world a little better than we found it. Her gentle spirit and enduring wisdom will be remembered and treasured by all who knew her.
Beyond her professional and family life, Esther was a vibrant member of her community. She shared laughter and camaraderie with her husband in the Mixed Couples golf league, fostering friendships and memories. Her love for literature led her to be an active participant in the Geneva Literary Club. Esther’s faith and commitment to her community were evident through her roles as a CCD teacher and member of the Assumption Church Parish Council. She also found joy in the Canasta Card Group and lent her voice to the choirs of Assumption and Immaculate Conception churches. Additionally, her dedication to the Christ Child organization reflected her compassionate spirit.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Carol (Alan) Landphair and Mary (Brian) Gilbert; grandchildren, Corissa (Justin Huson) Landphair, Dr. William (Jessica) Landphair and Trenton Landphair, Kira (Gabriel) Beck, Brendon (Mary) Gilbert; great grandchildren Ella and Luka Landphair and Molly Gilbert; and brother, Joseph Cursi. She was preceded in death by husband, William Wasulko; her parents; brothers, Louis and Richard Cursi; sister, Gloria Jean Taras.
Friends will be received 10 to 11 am on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway in Geneva, Ohio with a Memorial Service immediately following at 11 am at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at her final resting place, Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva after the funeral and a celebration of life will take place this fall.
